About the Procedure

Whether you need to correct a congenital deformity or you want to shape and lift  aging breasts, our board-certified plastic surgeons can help you achieve beautiful, natural results (Breast Lift). We want you to be able to wear the clothes you’ve been avoiding, and face the world with the self-assurance that comes from knowing you look as spectacular as you feel. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, heredity, age, weight and hormonal fluctuations all influence the elasticity of your breast tissue. A breast lift, or mastopexy, removes excess skin and tightens tissue to raise and reshape your breasts and reduce enlarged areolas, giving you a perky, youthful figure.

Who is it for?

Healthy adults who aren’t planning to bear future children. If your breasts are flat,  long, or sagging, if your nipples and areolas are enlarged and point downward, or if one breast hangs lower than the other, a breast lift may be your perfect solution. Pregnancy or significant weight loss can affect the result after a breast lift.

What are the results?

You’ll notice your higher, firmer breasts and well-placed areolas immediately. It will take a few weeks for swelling to go down and it can take up to a year for your breasts to fully “settle” into their new shape and for incision lines to fade. If larger and rounder breasts are your goal, you may want to pair your breast lift with a breast augmentation. Sometimes the two surgeries can be done simultaneously.

What is Treatment Like?

This is an outpatient surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia and about a week of recovery time. The incision points will differ for each patient, based on the size, shape, and density of your breasts. Your surgeon will make the incisions, lift and reshape the breast tissue, and close the incisions. Directly after surgery, you may have drainage tubes for a few days, to collect excess fluid. You may be swollen and bruised for several weeks and will need to wear a special support bra for about a week. You’ll wear a support bra for a month following surgery, and sleep on your back for the first  two weeks. You will need someone to drive you to and from the surgery center and stay with you  the first night following surgery. Your surgeon will prescribe pain meds, and you’ll need to avoid bending over, high-impact exercise, and strenuous lifting for a month to  six weeks.

What are the Risks?

All surgeries carry risks of medical complications, which your surgeon will discuss with you. A breast lift may result in temporary or permanent changes in sensation. You’ll need to avoid Advil, fish oil, and other blood thinners for two weeks before and after your surgery.
